SALEM

— Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of East Sixth Street at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a juvenile issue. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to settle down for the night.

— Officers responded to the area of South Madison Avenue and East State Street at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a man yelling and causing a disorderly disturbance. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the man.

— Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two vehicles operating recklessly in the parking lot. Officers located the vehicles parked next to each other and spoke with the driver, advising them of the complaint and the consequences of continuing their actions. They left the area.

— Officers assisted an agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in the 100 block of West State Street at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday. Officers seized $60 from the involved man as part of the investigation.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of East State Street at 6:57 p.m. Tuesday to check the area for 911 hang-up calls being received by the Boardman Police Department. Officers checked the area but nobody in need of any assistance was located.

— Officers spoke with a woman at the police department at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday regarding property at a former residence. Officers found the matter to be a civil issue and advised the woman to contact an attorney.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday in regard to having been threatened by a man in the Salem Plaza lot a short time earlier. Officers gathered information for documentation and advised the caller if further issues occur to file a report as necessary.

— Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and Franklin Avenue at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

— Officers responded to the area of East State Street and South Cunningham Road at 2:28 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Green Township Fire Department, which requested officers shut down the eastbound roadway on East State Street at the city limits due to a car accident. Officers shut the roadway down until the crash was cleaned up.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Rose Avenue at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday for a barking dog complaint. Officers stayed in the area for several minutes but didn’t hear any barking dogs.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 12:54 p.m. Tuesday for a parking complaint. The caller advised that a truck was parked in their yard and another truck was blocking their driveway. Officers spoke with construction workers regarding the complaint, and they moved the vehicles to alleviate the issue.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday for a report of identity theft. The person had received a credit card in the mail that they did not apply for and a letter requesting a change in address. The person said they contacted the number on the paper but the woman on the phone wanted all their personal information before proceeding so they hung up.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West State Street at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday for a parking complaint. There was a semi parked facing westbound in the eastbound lane, and officers made contact with the driver who was making a delivery and advised him he couldn’t be parked blocking traffic. He hurried to finish his delivery and left the area.

— Owen Gorby, 18, was cited for no passing on a double yellow line and failure to control after his vehicle lost control while going around a curve in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, striking a utility pole after passing a vehicle in a no passing zone at an excessive speed at 9:08 a.m. Tuesday. Gorby was transported to the Salem hospital by EMT.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Sixth Street at 7:27 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a juvenile riding a bike in the roadway. Officers located the juvenile and advised him to stay on the sidewalk and not to ride on the roadway. Officers spoke with the juvenile’s mother and advised her of the complaint.

— Officers spoke to a woman by phone at 9:04 p.m. Monday in regard to a custody dispute. The woman advised that the father of her children was supposed to have the kids returned to her at 9 p.m. and she could not get in contact with him. Officers responded to the man’s residence although he was not home. She was finally able to contact him and went to Lisbon to get her children.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 7:45 p.m. Monday for a report of a reckless operator. The caller advised that multiple vehicles from a residence in the area were drag racing. Officers spoke with the parties in question and advised them to stop.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 5:46 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on two people slumped over in a vehicle. Officers contacted the people in question who advised they were fine and were just sleeping in the vehicle waiting for a ride.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of East Tenth Street at 5:12 p.m. Monday for a report of a verbal dispute. One of the two individuals was upset because the other had been yelling all day. Officers spoke with the other individual about the yelling, and they agreed to refrain from further disturbances with the roommate.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Second Street at 4:52 p.m. Monday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with all three parties, and it was advised that they were having a dispute over money and that they were trying to work things out.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Columbia Street for a wellness check, requested by a family member that was unsure if the person still resided there. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence, and a second location was checked elsewhere in the city and confirmed to be vacant.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Monroe Street at 1:46 p.m. Monday for a domestic report. Officers spoke with a woman who advised her daughter had arrived at the residence and assaulted her. The woman had no visible injuries. The woman said that she didn’t want to pursue any charges but didn’t want the daughter back at the residence. Officers contacted the daughter by phone and advised her of the complaint and advised her she was trespassed from the property and that she could be arrested for criminal trespass if she returned.

— Officers responded to a business in the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 11:36 a.m. Monday for a report of receiving harassing letters. Officers gathered the letters and advised them to contact police if further issues arise.

— Officers responded with the fire department to a business in the 2400 block of East State Street at 9:39 a.m. Monday for a possible fire. The fire department investigated and advised everything was okay.

— Officers responded to a business in the 900 block of Salem Parkway at 7:53 a.m. Monday for a report of theft. The caller advised that a Honda generator and three Milwaukee angle grinders were taken from an enclosed trailer. Officers were advised that the theft possibly occurred several weeks ago when one of the employees noticed the door was open. A report will be on file.

LEETONIA

— Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Ridge Street at 8:31 p.m. Tuesday for a report of squatting. The caller advised his brother was squatting in the residence, dismantling the furnace and building a fire pit against the house, and he was worried that he would catch the residence and the neighbors’ houses on fire. Officers advised that since the homeowners are deceased the matter was civil in nature. Officers followed up at the resident to inspect the firepit and resident, who said he was being creative and expelling creative energy and had no intention of making it a functional fireplace. He was advised that no fires would be permitted on the premises that close to a structure and he complied.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Main Street at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a dog and a 6-month-old child being locked inside a car. Officers contacted Steve’s Towing for the caller who were able to unlock the vehicle.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Waddell Street at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday for a report of trespassing. It was reported that Matt Withers, 34, Youngstown, was trespassing at the residence for a third time, and in the storage shed at the back of the property. Officers could hear two people talking in the closed shed, finding it to be Withers and Megan Detchon, 33, Leetonia, the mother of Wither’s children. Withers has a court order stating he is not to be present on the property and has been arrested for trespassing on the property twice before. Officers spoke with the property owner by phone who advised that she did want him to be charged again. Withers was arrested and transported to the Columbiana County Jail for trespassing.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Columbia Street at 3:42 p.m. Monday for a reported theft. The caller advised that she had been evicted from the residence and given paperwork stating she had to be out by Tuesday and that she had been advised by the sheriff’s office that she would have until Tuesday to finish removing her belongings, but when she entered the home she found many of her personal belongings missing including a TV, a weed eater and children’s belongings amongst other items. The caller said she believed the landlord removed the items as her belongings were already partially packed up, and there were now cleaning supplies in the home. Officers advised her to bring a copy of the paperwork issued by the court as well as a detailed list of missing items to the police department at her earliest convenience. The caller also spoke with the police chief who advised he knew the current owner of the property and would attempt to contact them regarding the incident.
