COLUMBIANA 38, WESTERN RESERVE 37, OT

COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Clippers looked to sophomore third-string quarterback Carter Griffith to give them a chance to win Friday.

Griffith led a 65-yard game-tying drive with 55 seconds remaining in regulation and Columbiana beat Western Reserve, 38-37, in overtime Friday.

Devin Brode scored on a 2-yard run with 55.6 seconds left and added the two-point conversion to tie the game at 31-31.

In overtime, Danny Mangiarelli ran 9 yards up the middle for a 38-31 lead.

Western Reserve scored a a 18-yard pass on a fourth-and-8 play and had a two-point conversion pass knocked down by Columbiana’s John Parks.

Columbiana (2-0) will play at United in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener Friday.

Western Reserve (1-1) travels to Waterloo on Friday.

EAST PALESTINE 43, MALVERN 26

EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine captured its first win of the season by beating Malvern, 43-26, Friday.

The Bulldogs led 22-20 at halftime.

East Palestine (1-2) will play at Lisbon on Friday. Malvern (1-2) travels to Mogadore on Friday.

LISBON 50, WATERLOO 19

LISBON -- Lisbon scored 43 points in the first half and pulled away from Waterloo for a 50-19 win Friday.

The Blue Devils led 21-0 in the first quarter and 43-12 by halftime.

Lisbon (2-1) hosts East Palestine on Friday. Waterloo (1-2) entertains Western Reserve on Friday.

BRIDGEPORT 36, SOUTHERN 34

SALINEVILLE -- Bridgeport scored with 3 1/2 minutes left to beat Southern Local, 36-34, Friday.

The Indians trailed 22-6 and 30-20 before rallying to take a 34-30 lead in the fourth quarter.

Southern drops to 0-3 heading into Friday’s home game against Wellsville, while Bridgeport is 1-2.

WEST BRANCH 34, STRUTHERS 8

BELOIT -- Grady Hirst threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score in the first half in leading West Branch past Struthers, 34-8, Friday.

Gavin Marshall hauled in touchdown passes of 52 and 46 yards, Hirst ran 98 yards for the third score and then Jeremy Ramsey and Darke Stryffeler hauled in scoring passes of 72 and 14 yards, respectively, as the Warriors jumped ahead 34-0 in the first half.

Hirst finished 20-of-27 passing for 312 yards and had 98 yards on his only rush.

BEAVER LOCAL 35, ST. CLAIRSVILLE 21

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Beaver Local rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to power past St. Clairsville, 35-21, Friday.

St. Clairsville led 21-14 before Beaver Local tied the game at 21-21 by halftime.

Beaver Local (3-0) will play at East Liverpool on Friday.

St. Clairsville drops to 0-3, having lost 37-6 season to West Branch in the opener.
